This is an experimental Rooted in Trophy Game. It has been playtest once. It was a fun playtest but the battles seemed a little to loop sided in the players favor. I made some changes to make them harder. Let me know how they feel if you end up running it.

Concept

Fight for the River City is a game about a band of mercenaries defending a city they have grown to  know and love over their time being sellswords. This game is inspired by a conversation by Alex Rybitski on either the Trophy or Gauntlet discord  that I cannot find anymore.

One player will be the Elder. The Elder acts as a person recounting the story of the mercenaries to a fictional audience.

The rest of the players will be the leaders of the band who are the main characters in the story the Elder is telling.

Over the course of 7 nights the band will fight to take back the city and hold it from the invading force until reinforcements arrive.

Aim

The Aim of the leaders is to win key battles to take back the river city and hold it so that reinforcements can arrive.  The Aim of the players to work together and tell a tale of war, friendship and  grief. It is all responsibility  to make the world feel believable.

Tone

The tone of Fight for  the  River city is daring, dramatic, bloody. Levity between the members  of  the  leaders is  encouraged in interpersonal moments but we  should be  careful to make light of the terrible war that  is  happening over  the city  and what it costs at  the end of the day.

Subject Matter

War, destruction of property, death, losing your home, death of bystanders, violence.
